Men’s Book Chicago steps into the driver’s seat of the 2014 Range Rover Sport Supercharged.

Born from the desire to create an SUV that’s as capable on the road as it is refined, the Range Rover Sport became an instant hit when it debuted in the United States some seven years ago. Today, Land Rover readies the next generation of its high-performance SUV with the completely redesigned 2014 Range Rover Sport. For the first time the RRS is available with a V-6 engine­—though you can’t go wrong with the supercharged 510 horsepower V-8 screamer that comes standard on the $79,995 Range Rover Sport Supercharged. Coupled with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, 0 to 60 mph takes just 5.0 seconds. Another first is the addition of an optional third row seat, expanding total seating capacity to seven. Steering Wheel

  • This new small-diameter, yet thick-rimmed, wheel makes for easier handling, and is also a marked aesthetic improvement over the last model.
  • Rather than skimp with a simple plastic airbag cover, Range Rover has gone all out with this gorgeous stitched leather centerpiece.
  • Come winter, drivers will love the fully heated steering wheel.
  • What’s that? You’ll feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel when you accidentally drift out of your lane, physically reminding you to pay attention. It’s very Jetsons-esque, and very cool.


  • Easy-access menu buttons, which remain blacked out until you use them, flank a handsome 8-inch touch screen.

Gauge Cluster

  • A 12.3-inch fully customizable screen displays a variety of vehicle data, from navigation instructions to off-roading stats.
  • An optional color Head-Up Display projects important vehicle information and directional cues directly onto the windshield.
  • A noble metal finished trim piece outlines the otherwise high-tech instrument cluster, lending it a dash of old-world charm.

Door Panel

  • Metal surrounds are just the tip of the iceberg in the optional $6,300 Meridian Signature reference audio system, which incorporates 23 speakers to disburse 1,700 watts of crystal-clear sound throughout the cabin.
  • Notice the clever placement of the window switches just inches from the steering wheel. It’s one more advantage of Range Rover’s Command Driving Position.

Center Stack

  • Land Rover took a less-is-more approach to the cabin, reducing the number of switches on the Sport by 50 percent. The result is a modern, clean design, but it also means you’ll have to enter a menu via the touch screen to change the air flow or adjust the seat temperature. Still, it’s not a bad trade-off.
  • We love the LCD displays inside each of the three round climate control dials.
  • Range Rover offers loyalists unprecedented levels of interior customization with 11 interior color themes, four aluminum finishes, three wood trims and three headliner colors.

Lower Console

  • Does something look familiar, Jag aficionados? The Sport and the beautiful new Jaguar F-Type share this handsome gearshift selector, seen here housed in a glistening aluminum surround.
  • A rotary dial allows drivers to manually select a variety of off-road settings.
  • Two aluminum trim pieces flank the center console and gracefully curve down toward the lower console in a sophisticated yet rugged design statement that’s perfectly in sync with the character of the Sport itself.
