Bringing the Bar to the Farmers' Market

Mixologists raid the farm stand.

Cocktails of the Farmers Market comes to Ferry Plaza July 27.

The folks at the Center for Urban Education About Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA) have found all sorts of creative ways to spread the gospel of farm-to-table eating, and perhaps none goes down more easily than Cocktails of the Farmers Market.

The series, which kicked off in 2008, will return to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market on July 27, bearing seasonal cocktails made with produce taken directly from the farm stand. This year’s installment, a collaboration with the United States Bartenders Guild NorCal called “Summer Picnic,” will see about 15 bartenders doing delectable and alcoholic things with stone fruit, melons, berries, peppers, and their hot-weather brethren.

So far, the lineup includes representatives from Lazy Bear, Whitechapel, Kin Khao, Blackwater Station, Pabu, Tradition, and Third Rail. The $60 ticket to the event will buy you three full-size drinks, unlimited sample-size drinks, and an array of small bites; proceeds will benefit CUESA’s sustainable agriculture educational initiatives and the USBG’s professional development programs. Drink up.
