The team behind Ippuku, the Berkeley yakitori-ya, will open a soba shop in the tiny West Oakland space formerly occupied by FuseBox. Naturally, the focus will be buckwheat noodles, made with specialized equipment from Japan. 2311 Magnolia St. (Near W. Grand Ave.)

Chef David Nayfeld, formerly of New York’s Eleven Madison Park, will serve wood-fired pizza, fresh pasta (pictured), and housemade salumi at this auto shop turned rustic Italian restaurant.

Tanya Holland is turning the former Picán spot into a flagship location for her modern soul food restaurant, adding a dinner menu and a full bar to her legendary cornmeal waffles and other brunch fare. 2295 Broadway (Near W. Grand Ave.)
