New nonstop flights from SFO to Tahiti and Barcelona debut this month.

Reaching Bora Bora and Barcelona from the Bay Area becomes easier this month.

Time to plan that winter break—but will you take it easy in Tahiti or ramble Las Ramblas in Barcelona? The first nonstop, full-service flights to French Polynesia from the Bay Area debut at the end of October, as does San Francisco’s only nonstop route to the Catalonia capital. United Airlines will fly three times per week between Tahiti capital Papeete and San Francisco, beginning Oct. 30. The approximately eight-hour flights on Boeing 787 Dreamliners depart both cities on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. From Papeete, options for interisland air connections now include Tahiti Nui Helicopters, which also serves the private helipad at the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora and offers sightseeing flights.

French Bee also began thrice-weekly flights between Papeete and San Francisco this summer; the low-cost carrier includes a premium class with free Champagne, checked bags and roomier seats on its Airbus A350-900. Level, an offshoot of Iberia Airlines, will provide a similar premium class on its twice-weekly nonstop service between San Francisco and Barcelona, starting Oct. 31. The approximately 12-hour flights on Airbus A330-200 depart both cities Wednesdays and Saturdays.
